Kitchen Porter Reports to: Catering Manager / Head Chef Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 2:00pm (27.5 hours per week, term-time only) Role Summary Support the kitchen team by assisting with food preparation, deliveries, cleaning, and maintaining high standards of hygiene, health and safety throughout the catering operation. Key Responsibilities Kitchen Support • Receive and store food deliveries, including meat, vegetables and other supplies. • Distribute stock and supplies to the kitchen as required. • Assist with moving heavy items and equipment. • Prepare vegetables and basic food items for cooking. • Set up and clear dining areas, tables and benches. Cleaning & Hygiene • Clean kitchen areas, equipment, floors, walls and food preparation surfaces. • Wash dishes, cutlery, utensils, pots and pans by hand or machine. • Operate cleaning and sterilising equipment safely. • Empty waste containers and dispose of refuse correctly. • Follow cleaning schedules and maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment. Health & Safety • Follow all food hygiene, health and safety procedures. • Use equipment safely and report faults or hazards promptly. • Handle cleaning materials and equipment responsibly. • Wear appropriate PPE when required. • Ensure compliance with all workplace hygiene and safety standards. Teamwork & Customer Service • Work effectively as part of the catering team. • Support colleagues to ensure smooth daily operations. • Attend required training and team meetings. • Demonstrate a positive and professional approach when interacting with staff, pupils and visitors. Skills & Experience • Previous experience in a kitchen, catering or hospitality environment desirable. • Food Hygiene Certificate desirable. • Good communication and customer service skills. • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment. • Able to follow procedures and work efficiently. • Physically fit and capable of lifting, bending and standing for extended periods.
