What it buys: 2:1 or 8:6 rosters, a donga in a mining camp, and your family two thousand kilometres away for most of the year. The routes that actually exist
- 1. A ticketed trade. The sponsorship market runs through qualifications: sparkies, fitters, boilermakers, diesel fitters. Skills assessment first (TRA), then the sponsor. Start from the electrician pathway or the live sponsored-ads board.
- 2. The Working Holiday Visa. The honest answer behind most "no experience FIFO" stories. UK passport holders can apply up to age 35 and stay up to three years, and since July 2024 no longer need regional "specified work" to extend — check the current settings on the official Home Affairs page. That is the door the 535 FIFO trade-assistant ads are realistically open through. Over 35, this door is closed — no reel mentions that.
- 3. Already having the right to work. Citizens and permanent residents fill the operator seats. If that is not you yet, route 1 or 2 comes first — there is no dump-truck visa.
